During the evening of Sunday, May 26 – the congregation of HCC held a “Picnic, Praise, and Prayer” event. This night featured a time to write letters of appreciation to members of the American military, as well as poems and readings that reflected on the purpose of Memorial Day. The event also featured an indoor “picnic”.

Deacons Kent Copeman and Jay TenBrink hosted a “Dine with a Deacon” event on Saturday, May 25. The event featured a delicious lasagna, salad, as well as tasty desserts. This event was held to provide church members and attenders an opportunity to get to know the deacons of HCC better. Previous events were held in March and April. HCC is blessed to have faithful deacons with servants’ hearts.

A group of friends and members of HCC united to discuss the book, The Broker and The Bum by Brady Cook (a pastor from Texas). The story explored situations in the lives of Liam (a believer who lives on the streets of NYC) and Matt (a self-centered but successful financial advisor). The book is based on the Biblical parable about the rich man and Lazarus. The group enjoyed a meal, fellowship, and a lively discussion of the book. The next book club meeting will take place in July. The group is planning to discuss another book by Brady Cook which is set to be published in June.

Forty ladies united at noon on Saturday, May 18 to enjoy a time of fellowship. The event featured scones, petit fours, cookies, quiches, puff pastries, salads, and more. Ladies Fellowship Co-Director Danielle Coleman offered a devotion. Nelle Cooper gave the programs. HCC thanks all the ladies that worked so hard for making the day so special.

HCC hosted its monthly Young at Heart Luncheon. The meal featured salad, baked pasta, vegetable medley, garlic bread, as well as delicious strawberry shortcake for dessert. Andrea Henderson from the Refuge of Lapeer shared about their ministry to those that are unhoused in Lapeer.

During the service on May 12, the ladies of HCC were celebrated. Flowers, candy, and gifts were shared to show how much we valued them. Three ladies “won”: a plant and gift card from Wojo’s; candy and a gift card from Meijer; and a gift card to McDonalds. Each lady who attended received a pansy of their choice and candy. HCC is blessed to include so many wonderfully gifted women!
