Watch ‘I Stand Sunday’ & Take a Stand for Freedom

REMINDER: Watch ‘I Stand Sunday’ & Take a Stand with Us for Freedom

In a self-protective move, Houston Mayor Annise Parker on Thursday announced that she was dropping the subpoenas for the internal church communications for 5 local pastors. Aside from the fact that the subpoenas had little chance of being upheld in court, Mayor Parker sidestepped the real issue at hand in Houston. In her statement, she said, “I don’t want to have a national debate about freedom of religion when my whole purpose is to defend a strong and wonderful and appropriate city ordinance against local attack.”
The mayor may not want to discuss the freedom of religion, but we at Family Research Council think that our First Freedom is more than worthy of discussion. Intimidating pastors and churches stifles freedom, and Americans should be free to petition their local officials without fear of heavy-handed retaliation from government.

Please plan to watch with us I Stand Sunday – a nationwide simulcast this Sunday, November 2nd at 6:00 p.m. CT/7:00 p.m. ET. Live from Grace Community Church in Houston — one of the affected churches — “I Stand Sunday” will focus on what’s happening there and discuss how Houston is a bellwether for the rest of America. The event’s purpose is to show how Christians nationwide can stand together in love and unity for America’s First Freedom of religious liberty.
You can join with us as a host church, or by viewing at your home via webcast this Sunday evening. If you’re in the Houston area, please join us in person — the doors open at Grace Church at 5 p.m. CT.

The Voice of the Martyrs’ “I Commit” Regional Conference

Please join us Saturday, October 4, for The Voice of the Martyrs’ “I Commit” Regional Conference. Many Christians around the world today are persecuted because of their faith in Christ, yet through their lives and words they continue to proclaim, “I Commit” to serve the Lord, to stand faithful and to share the gospel with others. Come and be encouraged by persecuted believers’ testimonies of courage and faith, hear how God has worked in their lives and learn what God’s Word teaches us about persecution and commitment.

The conference will feature the following speakers:

“Sarah” Liu lived a life of faith in her homeland of China. Her unapologetic Christian beliefs ultimately led to her arrest, torture and imprisonment for six years. Reflecting on her experiences during that time, she says, “I thought of Christ being beaten on the way to the cross. He suffered for me, and in a small way I shared in that suffering for him. It gave me courage to survive my time in prison.” Her story is told in the video Sarah’s Trail of Blood.

While growing up in Syria, “Brother John” heard the call to prayer shouted out from minarets across his country of 24 million people every day. It was a continual reminder of how many people needed to know the truth. Today, through ongoing ministry in war-torn Syria, “Brother John” sees God working in awesome ways to bring many Arab people to a true saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Guest Speakers from various restricted nations.

Matt Rose has been on staff with The Voice of the Martyrs since 1998. He has met with and served our persecuted brothers and sisters in China, Sudan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Laos, Bangladesh, and other nations.

Musician/vocalist Amy Shreve and husband, Gary, lived in Nashville, TN, for many years. They have recorded 16 CDs ranging from harp instrumental to a vocal with contemporary style and full instrumental accompaniment. Two of their CDs have been done with The Voice of the Martyrs. They have led worship and music at VOM national conferences and regional conferences across the United States. A recently released CD includes the song “Beautiful Scars,” written on behalf of our faithful brothers and sisters.

The conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at:

Mayfair Bible Church

5339 W Pierson Rd.

Flushing, MI 48433

Doors open at 8 a.m. for registration, resource center and prayer.

Lunch will be on your own from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at area restaurants.

There is no cost to attend the conference, but an offering will be received.

To register and for more information, visit www.vommeetings.com and click on More Information to the right of “October 4, 2014 MICHIGAN (Flushing)” in the conference listing.
